DMG-HD4 -  The Jobu Heavy Duty Mark IV Gimbal Head

The Jobu Heavy Duty Mark IV is our standard gimbal head. We highly recommend it for all customers - it hits the mark on all specs: lightweight, easy to pack, exceedingly stiff and fluid in its movements. Works with virtually every lens on the market.

It picks up where the HD3 left off. We're never happy with the status quo, so we took the top-selling HD3 head and tweaked, revamped, and redesigned everywhere we could. This work resulted in a stunningly light gimbal head, just barely over 1000grams.

Here are some specs:

  1.  The DMG-HD4 is only 2lbs 2oz or 1010grams. Saving over 8oz on the BWG-HD3 - that is 1/2 a pound!
  2. Seriously stiffer! The new CNC swing-arm is upgraded with a solid billet aluminum horizontal arm offering fantastic stiffness and improved vibration control for big lenses.
  3. Smooth tilt action! We have implemented a needle bearing system similar to our Jr.3 to offer unparalleled smoothness in the tilt axis. Even with a large load of camera and lens, there is virtually zero friction.
  4. Easily adjustable friction levels with the main tilt-knob to find the sweet-spot for motion control.
  5. Easy to steer! Rubberized knobs are comfortable and easy on the hands and hold well under cold and wet conditions.
  6. Powdercoat finish on the main body and black anodizing on all the aluminum parts makes for long term weatherability and durability.
  7. NEW! Ships with the Surefoot SF-NXK kit lens plate for free. This 3.0" plate is suitable for smaller lenses or camera bodies, and is enough for most people to get practicing right away with their gimbal heads. We still recommend a custom-fit plate, but you will always find a use for this handy accessory. Includes allen keys and 1/4"-3/8" adapter bushing.
  8. New! Camouflage dust-bag is also included with the DMG-HD4
  9. Recommended load: 5-25lbs. Maximum Load: 50+ lbs, 22+ kg. (Routinely tested at weights of 100-200lbs without failure. A pointless specification, but we get asked, so there!)

Recommendations:

  • Suitable for lenses and cameras weighing up to 25lbs (old 600mm F4 + Pro body + Converters + Replacement foot: No problem!).
  • A stiff tripod recommended for up to 25+lbs of load. 3/8"-16 mounting stud required. Like the Jobu Algonquin tripod, TCF-36
  • A Jobu Design lensplate or replacement collared-foot matched for your lens.
  • A lens with a rotating tripod collar. (Short lenses, or wide angles require the WAA3. wide angle adapter, see Special Mounts)

Excellent service, particularly when it came to selecting the best lens plate to use with my gear combinations. The DMG-HD4 is as steady as a rock, very convenient to use and surprisingly easy to carry around all assembled. After only a couple of outings my keeper rate has rocketed. I know why I started out with ball heads but now realize that this was simply false economy.

this Gimbal head has nothing whatsoever to dislike,it has a great build quality, super smooth needle roller bearings with easily adjusted tension with the quality knobs on the head, forget fluid heads for me they're to stiff and lack the freedom of movement this superb head gives you.I have mounted a 400mm f2.8 with a canon 1dx mk2 body(+converters)and it is super smooth ,I can highly recommend this gimbal head ,unless of course you want a supposedly big name .......with a big price .PS. you rating buttons should have excellent among them.

Perfect for my 300mm f/2.8 ii, lighter than I'd thought, so no problem leaving it attached to my tripod whilst strapped to my back-pack. Whilst still expensive, it is a very good alternative to the more silly expensive gimbals out there.. highly recommend it, give it a go.

Excellent service, particularly with help selecting the correct lens plate for my gear combinations. The DMG-HD4 is a steady as a rock and very convenient to use. After only a couple of outings my keeper rate has rocketed. It is also very comfortable to carry around. I know why I started out using ball heads but now realise that this was simply false economy - should have changed sooner.

Firstly, I have to thanks Mr. Anderson for his honesty and reliability. I had all the support needed, and even more, from the moment I was placing my online order till when I received the shipment, perfectly packed and with a surprise of two gifts. Well done A++ for the service. Now about the Mark IV gimbal head; I haven’t used it hardly yet but as far as I did it looks great. So far my satisfaction it’s high. Using this gimbal head in the few shootings I had in this cold winter days it’s very comfortable, I specially loved the knobs witch are very easy to use even if your fingers are warmly protected by heavy gloves. I mainly use the head with a D4 and a 200-400 and it handles the weight of my set very smoothly.Thank You!Nicolo’ Lamberti
